Background Research on Alexandrina

by Zenless Merch 15 Jul 2024

Today, we are researching on Alexandrina, also knwon as Rina, from the Victoria Housekeeping faction.

As usual, let's start with her name. Her full name is Alexandrina Sebastiane. This time, her name doesn't come from a movie but from a real historical figure, and this person is quite famous. Some of you might not be familiar with this, but you've surely heard of Queen Victoria, right? Yes, Victoria is just her surname, and her first name is Alexandrina.

Now, let's talk about the surname Sebastiane. Nowadays, when we hear this surname, we often associate it with servants, butlers, and guardians. For instance, in "Black Butler", there is a character named Sebastian next to Ciel; in "Overlord", there's a Sebastian next to Ainz; and even in Marvel, Captain America has a Sebastian (the actor of Bucky Barnes is named Sebastian Stan). Curious about this phenomenon, I looked into it to see when this name became linked with butlers. In short, it dates back to two hugely popular Japanese animations from 1974 and 1978: "Heidi, Girl of the Alps" and "The Story of Perrine".

Coincidentally, both animations featured a butler character named Sebastian, and the production teams for both were the same group. It seems the latter work paid homage to the former by naming their butler Sebastian as well. These animations deeply influenced the manga, animation, and gaming industries of that era, leading to many imitations and tributes. The success of "Black Butler" and "Overlord" further reinforced this stereotype.

Now, let's discuss Rina's appearance.

Rina's main colors are black, white, and gray, with red lines as accents throughtout her design. Her overall demeanor resembles that of a Western ghost.

Not only her appearance but also her in-game movements and dodges are very ghost-like. I recommend a ghost movie I enjoyed as a kid called "Casper", which is a comedy, so feel free to watch it.

Although Rina's posture resembles a ghost, her attacks don't come from suppernatural abilities but from two puppet-like Bangboos she controls, named Drusilla and Anastella.

These Bangboos also have ghostly appearances, and their designs seem to be inspired by horror movies. For example, Anastella is likely inspired by the classic horror movie "Annabelle".

I'm not sure about Drusilla's inspiration, so if any readers know, feel free to share in the comments.

Back to Rina. Compared to her two sisters in Victoria Housekeeping, her maid outfit has a much simpler design and a more formal style.

First is the high slit that almost reaches her waist;

Next is the rina at the back;

And third are the red stripe decorations on her outfit.

Additionally, I noticed something strange: there is a device on Rina's arm, and its white part moves back and forth like a piston.

Even stranger, when Rina's arm bends to its maximum extent, this white device moves to the top and stops moving down.

Could Rina's arm be a mechanical prosthetic? Could Rina herself be a robot? It's quite a thought-provoking detail.

That's all for the character analysis of Alexandrina Sebastiane. Feel free to leave your comments for discussion.
